Let me start with a little profanity: Internet Explorer.  Okay, so maybe it’s not the type of profanity you were initially thinking, but in the Internet world, Internet Explorer is one of the foulest, most cruel phrases anyone could say.  Why? Simple.  It’s terrible mainly due to its inability to follow simple web standards and user basics.

I will be fair though, with the release of IE 9, Microsoft has finally begun listening to consumers and web developers alike, by releasing software that follows web standards a bit more strictly. The only new problem we, web developers, face are people... read on

SXSW 2012 is over and it was another great trip for the TrendyMinds team. We learned quite a bit at various panels and also ate some great food and attended some fun parties. Below are some of the panel highlights from the trip.

Designing from the Gut: Dangerous or Differentiator

This panel really intrigued me as it’s an internal battle I often have. Is it better to design based off lots of research or analytics, or what your gut tells you is right? The panel not only had some agency veterans but also had employees from Facebook and Twitter. The variety in speakers provided many unique... read on

We all have seen the Wizard of Oz, (at least once). This famous Technicolor feature film stars Judy Garland who plays Dorothy, a Kansas farm girl who’s been dropped into a mystery land of munchkins, lions, tigers and oh my, witches! Although, Dorothy does not have a roster of great clients to support, she does look to many along her yellow brick road for ideas, support and suggestions on whom, and what can get her (and her little dog too!) back home to Kansas to be reunited with her family.

Just like Dorothy, TrendyMinds is always looking for the best cast of characters, resources and... read on

By now, most businesses are implementing some form of basic SEO.  Whether it’s optimizing page titles and structure, or optimizing all pictures, content and folder structure, it’s important to build your site with SEO in mind.

Most people agree that Google is the leading search engine (by a significant margin).  By receiving over 65% of all search traffic, Google has been busy at work with trying to return the most relevant results as quickly as possible.

Recently, the search engine giant has released their latest version of their algorithm, Panda.  With the release of Panda came a... read on

It is predicted that by the end of 2011, global smartphone sales will surpass global PC sales – reaching 400 million a year. This milestone isn’t surprising. Take one look around any airport or coffee shop and you’re bound to find more people on their smartphone than talking to the person beside them. Yeah, this is quite the bummer for mankind, but what does this mean for our clients?

Simple. Every site we create must be mobile web friendly.

Sounds easy enough, right? Well let’s think about that for a minute. There are over 15 different smartphone manufacturers, each with dozens of... read on

An old sweatshirt, your comfy t-shirt, a favorite pillow, your 1999 Apple iBook?

We can all be guilty of finding comfort in a familiar belonging, holding on to relics that are irreplaceable. Fortunately, we can be afforded these comforts in most all facets except for one – technology.

It’s hard to forget the Best Buy Super Bowl Commercial that boasts ever-evolving cell phone service. It seems every advertisement encourages us to upgrade. Although it is frustrating (and uneconomical) to keep-up, there is one advancement we at TrendyMinds believe it’s time you get on board with: HTML5.

I recently spent 12 days in my hometown – Osaka, Japan (unaffected by the earthquake and/or radiation). It’s always refreshing to go home and immerse myself in a completely different culture. But something stood out to me during this trip that I had never seen before – American technology was being used everywhere!

One of my favorite things to do in Japan (other than to eat and shop) is browse Japanese electronic stores. Japanese technology, especially cell phones, is usually ahead of the curve. In the past I came home spouting to my friends about how fascinated I was with the new... read on

It’s time for my third annual South by Southwest (SXSW) wrap-up post. A vacation immediately following SXSW delayed my post this year, but hopefully my conference wrap-up details will more than make up for it.

    Breaking Taboos (#taboo$)

This conversation led by Mark Hemeon and Whitney Hess, focused on discussing important project aspects with clients, regardless of how sensitive the topics may be. Budgets, payments, client representation and other key issues were brought up during this panel.

Whenever the topic of budget comes up, a defensive position seems to quickly follow by both... read on
