The Super Bowl is less than two months away, which means fans are getting ready for a day of football, food and the fun and, sometimes, wacky Super Bowl commercials.  Even if you're not a fan of football, you'll most likely be watching the game to see the memorable ways big companies and corporations will be advertising their products.

Although television advertising has suffered due to digital video recorders, ads are still a form of entertainment and topic of conversation for many.  Millions of dollars are spent on funny, creative and political ads during Super Bowl Sunday.  This is because businesses know it is the one day of the year where their products and messages will be seen by millions of people, remembered, and if they're lucky, talked about by the media.

Given all of this, it's surprising to me that some people are still uptight when it comes to advertising.  I was reading the other day, in Advertising Age, about Kraft's recent ad campaign for Shake N' Bake in Boston.  The ad, which included a mirror, was placed outside of restrooms at Kraft's corporate office and read, "You look smashing. But your chicken breasts could use a lift."

As a result, it was rumored that a few Kraft employees were upset and the ad was taken down. Obviously the ad was meant to be humorous and was not directed at women since it featured chicken breasts and Shake N' Bake.  I don't think Kraft should have removed the ad.  In my opinion, it did what it was created to do which was making people aware of the product.  It also earned national media attention because of the controversy, and I think those who had a problem need to lighten up.  Ads like this run everyday on television, in magazines and online.  It's all a part of the business and not meant to deliberately hurt someone.  I think more people need to relax, get a sense of humor and stop being so uptight all of the time.
