Recently I had the opportunity to take a vacation to Greece. If you've never been, I encourage you to place the country on the top of your travel list. The people are friendly, the islands are beautiful, the history is rich, and the food is delicious.

On our last evening in Mykonos (which also happened to be my partner's 37th birthday), we sought out a tasty place to dine and asked the front desk clerk at our hotel for some help. Sale & Pepper (or "Salt & Pepper" as we thought it was called) is a little Italian restaurant on the island of Mykonos. Tucked away in the Laka district of Hora, the restaurant is owned and operated by an Italian couple that moved to the island in 1986.

As we settled in for what would be a three-hour excursion, we instantly felt like we were at a friend's home. The place settings were simple with a touch of elegance. There was a small "watchful eye" that was tied around the napkin and silverware, providing a little touch of Greek folklore.

Then came the meal. It was nothing short of amazing fresh mixed green salad, foccacia bread, homemade spaghetti with lobster and two bottles of Ivantino red wine.  Towards the end of our dining experience, while enjoying canolies and lemoncello, I noticed that the backside of the "watchful eye" had a sticker with the restaurant's name and contact information. Naturally (and thanks to two bottles of red wine), we asked if we could keep them as souvenirs.

The waitress said, "Of course -- that's what they are for!" and then began to share a story about their origin. Originally, the eyes were created as part of the restaurant decor. But then they started disappearing, as patrons would walk away with them after their meal. The owners quickly discovered that these inexpensive items were huge to their guests. To make sure their guests wouldn't forget the restaurant (and that a good restaurant review would have the potential to spread to others), they started printing small stickers with their name and phone number. The waitress went on to tell us that people come back each year to dine with the -- and to collect additional watchful eyes!

It was great to hear the story that the waitress told us, especially knowing that she had no clue about TrendyMinds and our promotional services. I enjoyed hearing about the restaurant's success with promotional products and how they "discovered" that they really work.

Sale & Pepper found the item that has become their signature memento. What is it that you provide to your customers as a small token to remember you?

Thanks for nice construction about international promotional power! I presume that the place settings were simple with a touch of elegance.
