An old sweatshirt, your comfy t-shirt, a favorite pillow, your 1999 Apple iBook?

We can all be guilty of finding comfort in a familiar belonging, holding on to relics that are irreplaceable. Fortunately, we can be afforded these comforts in most all facets except for one – technology.

It’s hard to forget the Best Buy Super Bowl Commercial that boasts ever-evolving cell phone service. It seems every advertisement encourages us to upgrade. Although it is frustrating (and uneconomical) to keep-up, there is one advancement we at TrendyMinds believe it’s time you get on board with: HTML5.

HTML5 is the next step in Internet browser capabilities and search engine optimization.  Currently, HTML is the context used by search engines to process what information is on a web page; as well as, dictate to the browser the structure of the page. As technology stands now, HTML seems to be doing a fine job, but we’ve all had moments where a search engine couldn’t find what we were looking for or a video that just wouldn’t load. HTML5 aims to solve these flaws, and succeeds.

Here are our top reasons for switching to HTML5:

  1. An added syntax which allows search engines to better understand the webpage content by dividing information into separate distinguishable parts (i.e. header, footer, main, sidebar, etc.). This division allows search engines to survey a webpage, skipping over sections to better analyze content.
  2. Flash is no longer required to play videos (Apple fans rejoice!). Flash is not always reliable or understood by search engines. HTML5 eliminates the need for Flash, embedding videos directly into websites for search engines to process and ensuring viewers the opportunity to view it.

Google is a major supporter of HTML5 (for the obvious search engine bonuses), and a driving force in encouraging website adaption.  TrendyMinds believes in this new wave of technology, encouraging our friends and clients to update their web browsers (a whole other conversation) and consider HTML5 when revamping or creating their next website.

Remember, Microsoft Internet Explorer 6 – 8 struggles with this syntax – so PLEASE update your browser! You’re better off providing a quality experience for users with modern browsers than focusing on those who are browsing in 1996. This practice will improve the likelihood of users finding your content and increase your R.O.I.

It’s easy to stick to the familiar. But we empower you to seek comfort in knowing HTML5 will help your company transcend to the next level in search engine optimization and website design.

As Elliot Jay Stocks has said, “We should treat those users who have the newer browsers!”

Not doing so is not pushing the industry forward, and ultimately providing clients with sub-par products.

Yes i am totally agree with the article that HTML website’s are better then Flash website. As HTML website’s took very less time to load in the web browser then of other Flash website’s. And it’s easy to Optimize a HTML website for the SEO purpose then of Flash.
And off course, as the article say’s HTML tags are better to get crawled by search Engine which is very helpful in website optimization.

I was looking over the new tags in HTML 5 while coding an ePub reference for a local publisher. I was thrilled to see the new semantic sections that it offered!

I still hesitate to upgrade my own code until the standard is officially released though.  It’s hard to complain about browsers not being standards compliant when the standard is incomplete.

The value of using HTML5 is clear though.
